Organizing Your Space for Success
By Vickie Minnella

3.1.11-V~News Weekly

Many of us get lost in the fast pace world we live in and wrapped in a cycle of disorganization. With little time to barely squeak by, who has the time to plan and organize let alone map out big goals? Well I encourage you; it is in these very moments that your life depends on it. Your health, your mind, your friends and family around you, even the people you do not know depend on it. When we have order and systems in place to help with smooth transitions we experience more joy, peace and happiness. We are more productive and even friendlier. Really! I will share a story with you about today. I am dealing with sick kids, school and work, along with a to do list out of this world. However, my ‘to do’ list is organized by:·

Phone Calls·

Errands·

Email/Letters·

Appointments·

Projects·

Miscellaneous Tasks

By setting up my list last night, I have been able to take 10 or 15 minutes here and there to check off tasks one at a time. By organizing my home, office, and car, things run smoothly. Now I am not always like this, don’t let this fool you. I too get off track sometimes. The important part is that I get right back up and start over: no looking back or beating myself up, just a fresh start or ‘re-do on the to do’. I allow myself to slip up every once in a while.

Well as far as today goes, I was able to tackle my day with very little sleep (remember, sick kids = no sleep for the mama) and remain joyful and less stressed. I went to the grocery store to grab a few things and smiled at people I did not know, met my son at the bus stop after school, and even smiled at the lady when she informed me I needed an emissions test before paying for my plate renewal, after I waited in a line longer than the Nile. But I checked a whole lot of stuff off my ‘to do’ list. In fact I have even taken a moment to count my blessings and thank God for them. As I sit here and write this, I encourage you to declutter one area of your life this week to make time for smiles and joy. Map out a plan for just one goal that will help relieve tension in another area and bring a sense of accomplishment to your life. I offer an approach to this in my book, 7 Steps to Successful Weekly Planning. Check it out on the website or feel free to email me. Make it a fabulous week and keep your eyes open for the next issue of V~News Weekly next week.

Written by Vickie Minnella

We have skinny jeans and skinny lattes—maybe we even have skinny lattes to fit into the skinny jeans. But have you ever thought about a skinny holiday? Consumerism around the holidays seems to fog up the real meaning of Christmas.

What if we committed to make this Christmas different? What if we thought more about why we were buying a gift for someone rather than simply checking another name off our list? What if we ‘skinnied’ our Christmas this year?

Here are some helpful tips to experience a Skinny Holiday:

Review the gift list- who could we create a relational gift for instead of buying a material item that may sit around their house collecting dust and create more debt for you.

Create relational gifts for as many people on your list as possible- instead of buying a Starbucks gift card for coffee, why not buy a bag of good coffee and attach a note that reads:

o “This coffee is a gift for both of us. It is to only be made when we are together and for the time it takes us to drink it, we are to share stories and conversation about lives.” That kind of gift would be a lot more meaningful and less bulky on both parties. When we give our presence we are giving much greater presents!

Consider making a donation to a worthy cause in honor of the name on your wish list this year- Check out Advent Conspiracy. Did you know that lack of clean water is the highest cause of death in this world? Just $10 provides one person clean drinking water for their entire life? Yes, $10 for a life time of clean drinking water. Living Water International is providing gift cards this year for the donations you make in someone’s name. I encourage you to check out http://adventconspiracy.org/ Watch the video- it IS the skinny on Christmas this year!

The story of Christ’s birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love.

So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a Savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists.

And when it’s all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that takes months to pay off, and this empty feeling of purposelessness. Is this what we really want out of Christmas?

What if Christmas became a world-changing event again? Advent Conspiracy is an international movement to do just that. A movement I’m thrilled to be a part of and invite you to check out.

When we worship fully, spend less, give more and love all, we are telling the true ‘skinny’ story of Christmas!

I would be happy to help anyone wanting more information on this.

What a great honor to be a Featured Member! Thank you NACWE!! Read my article below and I would love to hear your feedback!

My entrepreneurial journey is much like the laundry—never completely finished or caught up and sometimes it actually stinks. But after I wash it out, throw it through the rinse cycle and add the fabric softener, the freshness invigorates me and I’m ready all over again. I’ve heard fresh-smelling clothes described as the sign of a job well done.
I love being an entrepreneur. I love the idea that if I can think it, I can do it. If I feel led to take my business a certain way, I cut a new path and make it happen. I love the flexibility of scheduling and working around my children as well. As a mother of three very active children, I am sometimes exhausted trying to work more than full time, go to school full time, serve as the PTA president for a new school, coach cheerleading and raise my kids in a loving home.
Angela Thomas, Christian speaker and author of “My Single Mom Life,” serves as a huge inspiration to me and a key to my desire to press through. Her story has been a great influence in my life and motivated me to write my book and love my life, even as a single mom.
I started Beyond Walls to help people organize their lives to reach their full potential. We strive to create a simplified living space and set goals based on the client’s strengths while incorporating organizational skills to enable them to live the life in which they were designed to live.
There is a completeness that I feel when things are in order and goals are written down. I want to pass that on to others so they can experience the same type of peace that I crave. I have a systematic approach to developing and accomplishing goals and want others, especially busy women, in on the process.
I launched Beyond Walls with much research and training seminars. I joined a few reputable national organizations that helped me network with other like minded individuals and learn from their experiences. Then, I took the plunge. I said good-bye to logging ‘jail hours’ in the corporate world and decided to make every moment productive (not just my 7am-4pm required hours).
I’ll admit, it is quite scary sometimes being the sole source of income for myself and three little people, but it makes me work even harder. I know what I have to make every month and I let God direct me in the direction to accomplish that. He has yet to let me down.
For me, one of my biggest challenges of entrepreneurship is the start-up mode. The times I have to do without some of the things I like, or take income from odds & ends jobs to maintain this dream. It is a building process and sometime this impatient little girl gets frustrated and wants more result than ‘climb’ and developing of character.
But like many others I’m used to challenges, having seen my share of life trials. A major accident in 2002 left me in ICU with little hopes of surviving and if I had, doctors said I would remain in a wheel chair for the rest of my life due to a broken back and level three lacerated liver and concussion. I’ve also suffered the loss of a baby, and battled cancer while going through a divorce which leaves me raising 3 children single-handedly.
I have since gone on to build my own house, buy my own car, and put myself through school for an undergraduate degree that will be completed in less than six months and thanks to my almost 4.0 GPA, I will also be able to complete an accelerated masters degree beginning in April 2011.
My faith in God has been the driving force behind the survival as well as the success. There are days that I do not feel as motivated as others, but for the most part, I look at the list I have created (My Business Plan for my Life) daily and remind myself that if I have made it this far, there is a reason I am on this earth and I have to make it count.
I remain on my knees and crave the path God has for me.
My big dreams for the future? I hope to meet people all over the nation and beyond to inspire them to live each day with a passion and crave the direction and blessings of God. I want to be a well- known author, speaker and life coach leading people to the Father for their direction.
I would love to establish an organization for pre-teen girls to develop their self-confidence and educate them on the realities of the world in a Christian atmosphere. Also a group for mothers of this age group, where they can connect and be encouraged. I want to tour all over the USA and form these groups. During my freshman year of high school, I spent time on a feeding tube due to anorexia. My recovery led me to love leadership roles and to want to reach out to others. I feel I can contribute to other girls in this age group. I also see, now as a mother of 6 and 10 year old girls, the support needed for mothers as well.
